5-Star Patient Reviews: Tom, Angela & Katherine

A special thank you to everyone who took the time to leave us a review last month! Visiting the dentist can be a stressful experience – especially when you think there may be something wrong. At West Plano Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics, our goal is to put our patient’s minds at ease, provide them with a complete understanding of their individual dental needs, and make the experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

If a bad experience has left you leery of the dentist’s office, we encourage you to give us a try.  Call our office at 972-403-7364 and be sure to ask about our $59 Cleaning, Exam and Digital X-Rays!

Dr. Partow and staff are far and away the best dental team that I’ve ever used. She has fixed and repaired bad dentistry for me, and has done an excellent job. My dental issues have been complex, and she and her staff have been awesome. I couldn’t recommend them more highly.

It’s surprising to see any negative reviews–looks like people who didn’t want to own up to what they needed.

I highly recommend Dr. Partow and West Plano MD&O! The very best.”

“I called today at 4pm to see if they had emergency appointments. The very nice gentleman who answered the phone got me in immediately! I got there at 430 and was taken back almost instantly. I had cracked a tooth and was extremely anxious about being there. The X-ray tech made me feel super comfortable and she was very personable. The doctor and the dental assistant made me feel very comfortable and at ease, laughed and joked with me to make me feel less anxious. They both also stayed late for me to get the job done! All in all, very happy with this practice!”

5-Star Patient Reviews: Pamela & Cory

A special thank you to patients Pamela D. and Cory B. for the wonderful reviews left on Yelp. We know life is busy and leaving a review of your dental checkup probably doesn’t rank very high on your long list of things to do, so we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences.

At West Plano Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics, we strive to provide the very best dental care for each and every person who walks through our doors. It’s not always fun to hear that you have a cavity or need a crown, but taking care of your teeth now will save you a bunch of heartache (and toothaches) in the future!

“Taking care of my teeth has never been a priority for me. It can make going to the dentist uncomfortable, as I always fear that I’ll be judged and criticized (which I have in the past). Dr. Partow and her staff have always been very friendly and understanding to me and my needs. They have fun while they work and it makes the experience so much more relaxing. West Plano Modern Dentistry truly goes above and beyond for their patients and they never force unnecessary treatments. They even take care of my toddler, which is a major plus!”

Got 2 hours? Get a crown.

Single-Visit Dental Crowns

Who can afford to sit in a Dentist’s chair for hours on end to get a crown? Not us!  With CEREC® CAD/CAM, you only need 2 hours! Plus, with CEREC® CAD/CAM there are no temporaries and no need for a secondary visit. Not only is this approach less invasive than others, it offers durable, long-lasting and natural looking crowns in a just a couple of hours!

What Is A Crown?
A dental crown fully encases the visible portion of a tooth or dental implant to restore shape, size and strength to the tooth. Once a crown is bonded to the tooth, it should last 5 to 15 years with proper care and good oral hygiene.

How Do I Know If I Need A Crown?
Your Dentist may prescribe a crown for a number of reasons including but not limited to:

  • Restore and protect a worn, decayed, cracked or broken tooth
  • Protect and support a tooth after a large filling or root canal
  • Cover a dental implant
  • Secure a bridge or other prosthetic in place
  • Improve your smile by covering misshapen or severely discolored tooth

What Are My Options?
There are three types of crowns available. Your Dentist will assess your particular dental needs and recommend the best option for you.

  • Full Porcelain – Porcelain is attractive, strong, stable, and highly resistant to wear. It offers a high level of biocompatibility because it does not contain metal.
  • Full-Metal – A metal crown may be recommended for back teeth where the forces of biting and chewing are the greatest. A metal crown rarely chips or breaks. In addition, it requires minimal removal of tooth structure.
  • Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal –  While there are several advantages to selecting this type of crown, it requires the removal of more tooth structure than other types of crowns. This means that there is greater potential for patient discomfort during the treatment procedure

5-Star Patient Reviews: Mike & Eric

Let’s face it – there are hundreds and hundreds of dentists in Plano, Texas to choose from, which is why when our patients take the time to stop and leave a kind review about our practice, we take it personally! The review world is a tough one with a lot of negativity, and these 5-star reviews left by patients Mike S. and Eric W. are a welcome bright spot.

Unfortunately, Yelp uses a private algorithm to determine which reviews they keep, and which ones they filter out, so there’s nothing we can do to unhide the 23 5-Star reviews they are hiding on our page. One thing we can do is to ask our wonderful patients who are active Yelpers to please take the time to share your experience with others so we can start to turn our Yelp page around!

“I have been a patient of Dr. Partow for a long time now!! I’m totally shocked by these negative reviews. She is a very kind and caring dentist. She does beautiful and painless work at a very reasonable cost. I have referred many of my friends and family to her and not one has yet to be unhappy! Caroline and Mayra are both amazing. Maryann the hygienist does an amazing job and really cares about your health. I guess you expect your healthcare providers to tell you the truth and not sugar coat it if they see a problem. Bottom line try them out for yourselves and then judge. You may be pleasantly surprised”

“I’ve never been more relaxed at the dentist than I was going there today.  I have been going to them for a couple of years now, and have had a decent amount of work done (far less, however, than the previous dentist recommended).  I have found the office to be helpful and thoughtful, and I have found Dr. Partow to be fantastic, careful and practical.  I give them my highest recommendation and will continue to use them in the future!”

8 Foods And Drinks To Avoid

We’re yet to meet a patient who comes in hoping for a cavity or two. So unless that’s you – you probably do your best to avoid the discomfort and cost associated with a less than stellar dental checkup. Our diet plays a huge role in our dental health, so picking your foods and drinks wisely can have a major impact on the way your next appointment goes.

The staff at West Plano Modern Dentistry And Orthodontics compiled a list of the 8 worst foods and drinks for your teeth, many are no-brainers, but there may be one or two you hadn’t thought of. Give it a read and let us know your thoughts!

Love Your Smile

1.Hard, sour or sticky/chewy candy – It’s no secret that candy is bad for your teeth because of the high sugar content, but you may not realize the risks associated with hard, sour or chewy candies in particular. Hard candies are one of the top causes of chipped or cracked teeth – especially in children, while sour candies contain high levels of acids which can eat through enamel and chewy candies latch on to teeth and reek havoc in your mouth long after the treat is gone.

2. Sticky snacks like dried fruit – You may be surprised to see dried fruit on the list of no-no’s but, like sticky and chewy candy, dried fruit contains high levels of sugar and their sticky nature means they stay on and between your teeth longer.

3. Chewing ice – Say it with us, ICE IS FOR COOLING, NOT CHEWING!

4. Citrus fruits and juices – Citrus fruits like oranges, limes, lemons and even tomatoes are high in acid which is bad news for your enamel. Try to reduce your consumption of these to avoid cavities and other dental complications.

5. Starchy foods like pasta, bread, crackers and potato chips – You know, all the good stuff! 🙂 It’s pretty hard to avoid these staples, so try to remember to be extra diligent in your brushing and flossing after a starchy meal. Once exposed to saliva, starchy foods turn into a sticky, sugary paste that slides it’s way between your teeth where it can do some pretty serious damage.

6. Coffee, Tea and Soda – No surprise here! Not only do these drinks stain and discolor teeth, their (typically) high sugar content makes them another on the long list of cavity-causers.

7. Alcohol – Consumption of alcohol actually reduces the saliva in your mouth which leaves your teeth vulnerable. Saliva is our first line of defense in washing away foods and drinks that cling to our teeth and gums, so reduced saliva = reduced natural protection.

8. Sports and Energy Drinks – These are especially tough to avoid in the summer at baseball games and soccer practice, but sports and energy drinks are just as bad for teeth as a big fizzy glass of soda. Whenever possible, opt for a big glass of cold water to help beat the heat and stay hydrated!

Protect Your Athlete & Their Smile

Plano Athlete Mouth Guards

Summer sports are kicking off which means it’s time to start thinking about how best to protect your young athlete and their smile. From football to hockey, baseball to rugby, mouth protectors help cushion a blow to the face, minimizing the risk of broken teeth and injuries to the lips, tongue, face or jaw. But with so many options available how do you decide which is best for your child?

Custom-made mouth guards tend to be the most comfortable option since they are created specifically for the athlete. Unlike other styles of mouth guards, custom guards are made by a dentist or dental laboratory after an impression of the teeth is taken. It’s important to note that teeth shift and move over time – especially for young people – so even a custom-made mouth guard will only really last for one season.

Boil and bite mouth guards are very affordable and can be purchased at most sporting goods stores. To fit a boil and bite guard, simply boil the pre-formed guard in water, then bite down into the warm plastic to shape the guard to the teeth. This style of mouth guard tends to offer a better fit than stock mouth protectors, but can be a bit bulkier than a custom-made mouth guard.

Stock mouth guards are inexpensive, pre-formed and ready to wear. These are generally the least comfortable option as they are not fitted to the athlete which means they are the most likely to fall out. Stock mouth guards can be very bulky which may make breathing more difficult.

Need to have a custom-made mouth guard created for your son or daughter? West Plano Modern Dentistry And Orthodontics would love to help! Call us at 972-403-7364 or stop by our office conveniently located at the SW corner of Dallas North Tollway and W Park Blvd in the Home Depot Shopping Center next to Potbelly’s Sandwich Shop!

“Our family has been coming to West Plano Modern Dentistry since Oct ’16 when we moved from another state.  I have been to many dentists in my days, and have a higher than normal expectation with dental services.  I cannot say enough great things about this practice!  Dr. Partow is a FANTASTIC leader and highly skilled dentist!  Her employees love working there and for her and it shows!  They are great to work with, very friendly and authentic.  I had some major issues that needed repaired and I remember pain from previous dentists – Dr. Partow was so gentle, I did not feel a thing and was surprised when it was all over.  They are honest and fair.  I would recommend this dental practice to anyone!!”

“Was very nervous to start off with, but the dental assistant Teresa and the Dentist made me feel very at ease as a team. They worked very well as a unit and understood what was needed from one another to ensure my visit was the best.  I went in for a deep cleaning and to fix  a chipped tooth. I had heard the Deep Cleaning was very painful, but luckily I did not go thru any unnecessary pain due to the professionalism of the staff. As for the filling I cannot complain or be any happier. It was a front tooth I was getting fixed, so not only did they help give me comfort in my own mouth, but confidence as well! Thank You
West Plano Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics for everything!!!!!!!!!!!”

5-Star Patient Reviews for West Plano Modern Dentistry

“I highly recommend this place. In the past, I’ve had a root canal done by a different dentist in the Plano area. It was the worst experience. So after avoiding the dentist for too many years, I decided to give Modern Dentistry a try.

It turned out, due to my neglect, I had gum disease and needed a root canal and two crowns. After going here for a few years now, because of a few laser treatments and now regular cleanings, my gums are healthier.

When it was time for my root canal, I was very scared and nervous. Dr. Mitra Partow, made me feel comfortable and honestly the root canal was not that bad. She is a pro.

The gentlemen at the front desk, Cornell, was super helpful and made me feel comfortable as well. It’s nice to know my teeth are in good hands.”
